IUCN/SSC Wetlands International Flamingo Specialist Group (FSG)
The Flamingo Specialist Group (FSG) was established in 1978 at Tour du Valat in France, under the leadership of Dr. Alan Johnson. Today, the group is coordinated from the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge, UK, as part of the IUCN Species Survival Commission/Wetlands International Waterbird Network.
There are currently more than 235 members from 57 countries around the world with expertise in both wild and captive flamingo conservation. Members are encouraged to participate in FSG activities, including the development of conservation Action Plans for species in which they have special expertise, workshops and other international meetings.
The FSG publishes an annual bulletin (currently called Flamingo) containing articles on the world’s six species of flamingo, including reports on the status, movements, breeding and biology of species in the wild or in captivity on a regional or local scale, short papers with original data, progress reports of in situ and ex situ conservation projects, ringing reports, news items, etc.
